Custom properties

Updated October 19, 2026

Custom properties add your own dimensions to Statsdot: which author's posts get read, which category brings sign-ups, which plan people choose.

On every pageview

Add data-prop- attributes to the Statsdot tag, filled in by your templates:

<script defer data-domain="example.com"
  data-prop-author="Ana Ruiz" data-prop-category="Guides"
  src="https://statsdot.com/js/script.js"></script>

Every pageview of that page carries author and category.

With an event

window.statsdot.track('Signup', null, { props: { plan: 'yearly' } });

Properties can go together with revenue: { revenue: 49.90, currency: 'EUR', props: { plan: 'yearly' } }.

Rules

  • Up to 10 properties per pageview or event.
  • Keys: up to 40 characters, letters, digits, - and _, stored in lower case.
  • Values: up to 100 characters.
  • Never put personal data in a property: no names of visitors, email addresses or customer numbers. The author of a post is fine; the person reading it is not. See Personal data you should never send to your analytics.

In the report

When the period has properties, a Properties panel shows one tab per key and its values with their visitors. Click a value to filter the whole dashboard by the visits that sent it, like any other row.

API

GET /api/v1/sites/{site}/stats/breakdown/properties?property=author gives the values of one property, and filters[prop]=author=Ana Ruiz filters any statistic. See the API.
