Import your history from Matomo
Updated October 19, 2026
Statsdot imports the daily totals of a Matomo site, self-hosted or on Matomo Cloud, through Matomo's own reporting API.
What you need
- The address of your Matomo, for example
https://matomo.example.com. It must use https. - The id of the site in Matomo: in Matomo, Administration > Websites > Manage, the ID column.
- A token with view access to that site: in Matomo, Personal > Security > Auth tokens > Create new token. A user with view access only is enough; you can delete the token once the import is done.
Import
- Open the settings of your site in Statsdot and go to Import your history > Import from Matomo.
- Enter the address, the site id and the token, and choose Connect Matomo. Statsdot checks them and shows the name of the Matomo site.
- Choose Start import. Statsdot imports one month at a time and shows the progress; keep the page open until it finishes.
Only the days before your site started recording in Statsdot are imported, within your plan's data retention. A new import replaces the previous one, whatever tool it came from.
What is imported
Daily totals for visitors, visits, pageviews, bounce rate and visit duration; pages, entry pages and exit pages; direct visits, search engines, websites, social networks and campaigns, with their channels; countries, regions and cities; device types, browsers and operating systems; event categories, outbound links and downloads.
Matomo keeps the top rows of each report per day (500 per report here), so very long tails of pages may be cut, as in Matomo's own reports. Unique visitors per day come from Matomo when it has them, otherwise visits are used.
The token
Statsdot uses the token only during the import. It is kept encrypted in a temporary store for at most an hour and is never saved with your account. Statsdot only reads reports; with a view-only token Matomo would refuse anything else anyway.
