Statsdot or Umami?
Updated October 13, 2026
Umami is an open-source analytics tool with a generous free cloud plan and the option to run it on your own server. It is a strong choice for developers. Here is how it compares.

The visitor code
Both tools count unique visitors with a code made from the IP address, the browser and a secret key, without storing the IP. The difference is how long the key lives. Statsdot deletes it every day, so the same person can never be linked across days. Umami's default is a monthly key, which links a person's visits within the month. Both are cookieless; ours keeps less.
Self-hosting
If you want to run analytics on your own server, Umami is free and well documented, and Statsdot is not an option. If you would rather not maintain a server, database and updates, the cloud versions of both are ready in minutes.
Where Umami is ahead
Funnels, user journeys, retention cohorts, revenue reports, an API and the freedom of open source. For product teams who need those, Umami is the stronger tool.
Where Statsdot fits better
Small businesses and agencies that want a simple dashboard in their own language, unlimited sites on one plan, and data that stays in the EU with a company in the EU.
