Ask your analytics in plain language with Claude or ChatGPT

Updated October 18, 2026

Most analytics questions are small: "Did the newsletter bring visits?", "Which country grew this month?", "Where do visitors to the pricing page come from?" Opening a dashboard, picking a range and adding a filter takes a minute. Asking takes ten seconds.

Statsdot has an MCP server, the protocol AI assistants use to read data from other tools. Once it is connected, Claude or ChatGPT can look up your numbers while you talk to them.

Connecting

  • Claude (web, desktop, mobile): Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector, address https://statsdot.com/api/mcp. A Statsdot page opens; sign in and allow.
  • ChatGPT: create a connector with the same address and OAuth as the authentication.
  • Claude Code, Cursor, Codex: with an access token from your account. See Connect an AI assistant.

Connections made from Claude and ChatGPT are read only. You see them on the API and MCP page of your account and can disconnect them at any time.

Questions that work well

  • "Compare last week with the week before for shop.example.com. What changed?"
  • "Which pages brought the most visitors from Google in September?"
  • "How many people reached the Signup goal from the autumn campaign?"
  • "Which AI crawlers read my site this month, and which pages?"
  • "Is anyone on the site right now?"

The assistant chooses the right range and filter, reads the numbers and writes the answer. Comparisons and summaries are where it saves the most time.

Where to be careful

Check the numbers behind decisions. Assistants sometimes round, mix up periods or describe a change of 3 visitors as a trend. Before you change a budget because of an answer, open the dashboard and look at the same range.

Small numbers are noisy. A page going from 4 to 8 visitors "doubled". The assistant may say so; it is still four people.

It sees what you see. The assistant reads the same aggregated statistics as your dashboard, for the sites you have access to. Statsdot stores no personal data about your visitors, so there is none to pass on. What you type into the assistant is handled under that assistant's own terms.

When a dashboard is still better

For spotting a pattern across many pages, scanning a chart or sharing a view with a client, the dashboard is faster. Use the assistant for questions, and the dashboard for looking around.
